Besides being host at the television program Today Ann curry also hosts Dateline and substitutes Brian Willams at NBC Nightly New.
Born to a American father and Japanese mother Curry inherits a profound understanding of Global affairs. As a US Navy Employee Curries father was deployed in Japan during the U.S Occupation of Japan after the end of Second World War. During his stay as part of US Troupes in Japan Curry's father met her mother. The pair were restricted from getting married on the basis of US military code of conduct. However the Navy Man did not loose heart and returned after two years and married Curry’s mother.
Curry’s family relocated frequently and growing up Curry went through the experience of staying at various locations including San Diego, Alameda, Japan, Virginia and Ashland, Oregon. At times she went to her maternal house in Japan during vacations for short stays.
Curry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in Journalism from University of Oregon. She did her schooling from Ashland High school based at Ashland, Oregon. Curry's first job was with KTVL Channel 10 also known as News 10 at Medford, Oregon where she joined as an Intern at the age of twenty-two, she was soon promoted to the post of reporter and enjoys the distinction of being the first female news reporter at the respective station. In 1981 Curry moved in the position of Anchor and reporter to KGW an NBC affiliate serving the Portland, Oregon area.
In 1984 Curry joined KCBS-TV at Los Angeles, Ann Curry continued for next six years with KCBS-TV as a reporter, she received two Emmy awards during her profession association with the channel. Ann Curry continued with KCBS-TV till 1990.
In 1990 the now well established reporter got a break with NBC News as their Chicago correspondent however soon curry moved to anchoring, her first anchoring assignment for NBC was NBC News at Sunrise. She was a regular feature of the show from 1991 to 1996. During this time she also served as substitute anchor for The Today Show and Weekend Today. Ann Curry currently Anchors Dateline NBC, The Today Show and is substitute anchor for NBC Nightly News weekend editions.
Curry has always been regarded for her courage as a reporter she has reported stories from many adverse locations including Sri Lanka, Baghdad, Congo, Rwanda, Darfur and Albania. Curry is also known for her interviewing skills, some of her memorable interviews include the ones with Michael Bloomberg mayor of New York City and with American environmental activist and Politician Al Gore.
Ann Curry is married to college buddy and software professional Brian Ross. The couple is blessed with a daughter and a son named McKenzie and Walker respectively. She currently lives at Gramercy Park, New York along with her family.
